A Cincinnati native, Tony has spent the last 27 years in radio, beginning with a gig at his high school. His path took him to Xavier University and eventually to Birmingham, where he served as the afternoon DJ on WZRR for two decades. He began hosting on WJOX in 2005, formed The Opening Drive with Jay Barker and Al DelGreco in 2006 and moved over full-time in 2008.
Tony has broadcasted live from across the globe, featuring coverage of three Olympiads, the Academy Awards, the Grammys and more. He has interviewed famous athletes, coaches and rock-stars. Known for on-air stunts, Kurre once sat on a billboard for two weeks, and has even married a couple at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
Kurre is also committed to charity. He raised $12,000 for St. Jude Research Hospital by having his head shaved, and raised over $100,000 for the 9/11 relief fund for families of firefighters and policemen. Those are just two of many examples.
Kurre and his wife Nance live in Birmingham with their two adopted sons, Santo Cruz and Xavier, both born in Guatemala. Their story made him a finalist for Crown Royal's "Your Name Here 500" NASCAR Promotion in 2009.
